The Forester women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Lourdes University (4-1) Wednesday afternoon to drop to 3-4 on the year. Of HU’s four losses, three have been decided by just one goal.
Huntington’s defense stood tall except for a breakdown right after halftime when Karlie O’Keefe found back netting for what served as the game-winner. The Gray Wolves entered the contest having scored three goals in each of their last two outings.
Offensively, the Foresters had several quality opportunities including two blasts in the first half that Lourdes keeper Kerstyn Williams had to make diving saves to keep the hosts off the board. She claimed six additional saves in the final 45 minutes.
Lewis’ crew kept the pressure on down to the waning seconds. With ten minutes remaining, Courtney McKown lasered a shot off the crossbar and struck for crossbar again with 20 seconds remaining to be denied the equalizer both times.
HU finished with 14 shots, eight of which were on target, while Lourdes finished with ten shots, seven on goal.
Maddy Moan took the loss in goal for the Foresters. The sophomore keeper finished with four saves.
“This was a tough loss for us,” said Coach Lewis. “We had several good opportunities but just didn’t finish. Overall, our game continues to progress – we’ll be patient and build a solid foundation.”
The Foresters are back at it on Saturday with a road trip to Siena Heights for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Saints.
