WOMEN’S SOCCER

In the first of a pair of road games against WHAC schools this weekend, the HU women’s soccer team was stung 5-0 by #RV Aquinas College (3-1) Friday night.

The Foresters (3-2) held off the Saints through the opening 20 minutes before the wheels came off. The hosts scored three times within five minutes to blow open an unsurmountable lead that HU couldn’t recover from. AC would carry that advantage into intermission before piling on two more goals in the latter part of the contest to make for the lopsided score.

Aquinas has shutout three of their four opponents so far this year.

The meeting was the fifth between these two programs since 2013 with the Saints holding a 3-2 tilt in the win column.

HU finished with four shots on the evening. Maddy Moan collected eight saves in the losing effort.

“We played a quality first twenty minutes, but then we made a costly mistake that led to a goal,” said Coach Lewis. “We faded from there.

“Aquinas has a strong team and they made some great shots – they were definitely the better team tonight. We will regroup and be ready to go again tomorrow.”

Huntington is back in action tomorrow to square off with Cornerstone at 5:00 p.m.
