MEN’S SOCCER

For the second straight contest, the #RV Huntington men’s team collected a clean sheet with the University of Michigan-Dearborn its latest victim as they handed the Wolverines a 1-0 loss Saturday afternoon at Gabriel Richard Catholic High School.

The Foresters have squared off with the Wolverines twice, the first last fall, and come out on top both times.

While just one goal separated the two teams by game’s end, the Foresters held the upper hand throughout. HU was on the attack as evidenced by generating 18 shots while at the other end of the pitch, HU limited their hosts to just one shot on goal.

Caleb Sexton scored what proved the game-winner for the second straight game. Just like Wednesday’s goal, Sexton scored on a restart. This time around, it came in the 28th minute when he blasted a shot up and over the wall into the upper 90.

All three of HU’s wins have been sweeps with Gabe Greenfield claiming all three in frame.

“The boys had another strong outing – especially in the first half,” said Coach Lawson. “I thought we possessed and pressed Michigan-Dearborn which generated multiple opportunities for us. Our middle three did a fantastic job moving the ball and controlling tempo which allowed us to be creative in our attack.

“While they got on the ball a little more in the second half, our defense was organized. We kept our shape for another clean sheet.”

Huntington returns to King Stadium Wednesday to host Cleary University at 5:00 p.m.
