WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Huntington women’s tennis came up just shy of the upset Saturday afternoon at Klopfenstein Courts to suffer a 4-3 loss to Marian University.
HU was a handful for the 25th-ranked Knights despite playing with a jostled line-up due to injury. It came down to the wire before the hosts conceded the loss to drop to 1-1 on the year while MU improves to 2-0.
Charlotte Solli and Lanae Singleton were double winners for Coach Ferguson’s crew. The pair teamed up at No. 2 doubles to notch a 6-3 win over Laura Kuebler and Teodora Simion before they each won their respective singles match, both of which were three-set thrillers.
Meg Dolde was the Foresters’ other winner on the day having beaten Maria Lueka in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, at the top spot in singles action.
“The ladies played well against a solid Marian team, even though our #5 singles player was unavailable today,” said Coach Ferguson. “The remade line-up was an example of our ‘the next man up’ philosophy.”
The Foresters take a break from league play on Tuesday to host UNOH at 4:00 p.m.
