MEN’S GOLF

The Forester men’s golf team wrapped up the year with an 8th place finish at the Crossroads League Championships. The two-day event was held at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend and cut 36 holes short due to inclement weather.

“We did a great job of managing through heavy rain and winds during the first 15 holes,” said Coach Sholund. “We were in the top four when we faced a four-hour delay. But we came back flat after the delay and struggled to build positive momentum.

“We are learning, and this was a great experience for our young players.”

After turning in a 340 on Monday, Sholund’s crew fired a 330 on Tuesday to finish with a 94-over-par 670. Cale Carr paced Huntington with a 156 (80-76) to claim 13th individually out of 45 golfers.

Logan De Maa turned in a 159 (82-77) to finish 20th overall. David Beck was next for the Foresters with a 172 (88-84). Andrew Weisheit (90-93) and Nick Whitney (100-94) rounded out HU’s scoring with a 183 and 194 respectively.

“Logan did a solid job of managing his game in tough conditions and struggling with ball control a bit,” noted Sholund. “He is maturing as a player and will be ready to go this fall.

“We are going to miss our seniors Cale Carr and Andrew Weisheit. They each brought a set of unique gifts to our program. I am personally grateful for each of them and the time spent together as a team. I know these memories will last a lifetime.”

Taylor claimed their fourth straight CL championship by carding a 595 followed by Marian (6-4), IWU (607), Grace (635), Spring Arbor (638), Saint Francis (652), Mount Vernon (653), HU (670) and Bethel (687).
