The HU track and field men’s and women’s teams weathered the rain Saturday to compete in the Grace Lancer Invitational at the Key Track and Field Complex where both teams finished fourth.

On the women’s side, Saige Norris brought home Huntington’s only first place finish in an individual event by winning the 5,000 meters in 19:40.35. She also earned points for her team in the 1500 meters by crossing the line 4th in 5:07.43.

Mara McFarland had a PR in the 400 meter hurdles by clocking in at 1:09.61 good for 4th and the 10th spot in the HU record books.

Molly Mitchell had a solid outing to claim 3rd in the 1500 meters in 5:05.59. She also ran the first leg of the winning 4×400 meter relay team that clocked in at 4:15.15. Other members included Jessica Chojnacki, Mara McFarland and Jordan Adam.

Chojnacki joined Mitchell in the 4×800 meter relay, along with Olivia Von Gunten and Aspen Dirr, to take 2nd in 9:33.52.

Other top five finishes for the Foresters included Isabel Hunter in the 5,000 meters (3rd, 20:37.42), Tayia Meadows in the 100 meters (4th, 13.51) and Brooke Saylor in javelin (4th, 30.88 meters).

IWU won the women’s title with 169 points followed by Marian (97), Bethel (90), HU (64), Saint Francis (58), Trinity Christian (45), Grace (33), Grace Christian (23) and Goshen (7).

Cameron Worsham posted HU’s only win on the men’s side. The rookie hurdler turned in a 15.57 in the 100 meter hurdles for the top spot.

Zach Williams tossed a personal best in in discus to finish 4th with a mark of 40.40 meters.

Andrew Zachary earned points in the 200 meters (5th, 23.26) and 400 meters (3rd, 51.14) and then joined efforts with Heath Atkins, Peyton Depriest and Avniel Barrow to claim 3rd in the 4×100 meter relay in 42.48.

Two Foresters placed in the 5,000 meters with Nick Childs taking 4th (16:49.62) and Kody Ahrens claiming 5th (17:07.67).

Other top five finishes for HU included Depriest in the 200 meters (3rd, 23.09), Adrien Gentie in the 1500 meters (3rd, 4:02.77), CJ Robertson in the 400 meter hurdles (5th, 1:00.93) and the 4×800 meter relay team of Robertson, Gentie, Elijah Chesterman and Josiah Sovine (4th, 8:52.14).

Marian took top honors for the men with 136 points followed by Grace (125), IWU (80.5), HU (71), Bethel (71), Trinity Christian (51), Goshen (49), Saint Francis (41.5) and Grace Christian (1).

Next up for the Foresters is the Crossroads League Championships slated for May 2-3.
