MEN’S TENNIS

FRIDAY
The HU men’s tennis team posted its second straight win by slipping past Lawrence Tech 5-4 Friday afternoon at Klopfenstein Courts. With this win, the Foresters improve to 11-7 on the year.

Today’s match was part of the IWU Tennis Invitational that will take place throughout weekend featuring 24 total matches at six sites. Those sites include Huntington, IWU, Taylor, Marian, Marion High School and Mississinewa High School.

The field includes 30 men’s and women’s teams from 16 schools representing eight different conferences and seven states including Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin.

Ignacio Poncio’s play the highlight of the afternoon. A double winner for Eckert’s squad, he claimed an 8-5 W in doubles with Mariano Echevarria, before winning a come-from-behind three-setter at No. 1 singles to keep his undefeated home streak in singles play intact.

The Foresters are back at it tomorrow to host IU Southeast at 3:00 p.m.

SATURDAY
The Huntington men’s tennis team was on the wrong end of a 5-3 decision to IU Southeast (8-9) Saturday afternoon at Klopfenstein Courts as part of the IWU Invitational.

Illia Turaba and Sebastian Salas teamed up at No. 2 doubles to earn HU’s first point. Salas would go on to claim another win, a three-set thriller, at No. 4 singles. Ignacio Poncio was the Foresters’ only other winner at No. 1 singles.

Eckert’s crew is now 11-8 on the year. Huntington is back in action on Friday to host Aquinas at 4:00 p.m.
