SOFTBALL

Up against one of the nation’s best in their season opener, the Forester softball team was swept, 7-0, 1-0, by #13 Lindsey Wilson Saturday afternoon at Sparks Park. With these wins, the Blue Raiders remain perfect on the season at 10-0 while HU drops to 0-2.

LWC scored in each of the first five frames highlighted by a three-run fourth which included one of the Blue Raiders’ two dingers. The hosts also hammered out three doubles on their way to outhitting Huntington 10-2. HU’s two base pokes came at the bat of Jada Crofoot and Denaia Rice.

Meghan Fretz took the loss for HU. She tossed the first four frames and gave up seven hits, six runs and four walks. MacKyndsea Burke pitched the final two innings, surrendering three hits, one run and a walk.

After getting the first-game jitters out of their system, Coach Gower’s crew kept things close in the nightcap with the game’s only run coming in the fourth. The Blue Raiders cashed in on three of their seven hits to eventually find home for what proved the game-winner.

Mallory West went the distance for the Foresters in the circle to eventually take the loss. The sophomore hurler gave up seven hits, one run and two walks while striking out four.

Rice and Paige Eichelberger each hammered out a pair of singles to account for all but one of HU’s hits in the contest. Huntington left six baserunners stranded as did the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson committed an error in HU’s first at bat of the nightcap for what otherwise was a cleanly played doubleheader. Huntington played error-free ball in both games.

Next up for the Foresters is the Elizabethtown Invite March 8-9.
