MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Crossroads League announced its 2018-19 men’s basketball postseason awards and highlighting the list was Huntington University freshman Caleb Middlesworth being tabbed Freshman of the Year.
Middlesworth is the first Forester in program history to receive this prestigious honor. His impact was immediate as evidenced by starting all 31 games for Coach Platt. He currently sits 16th in the league in scoring having averaged 15.58 points per game. He also pulled down 4.6 rebounds per night.
Among his league peers, the Marion native (Oak Hill HS) ranks sixth in stellar points (36), 10th in 3-point field goal percentage (.431), 11th in field goal percentage (.509), 12th in blocks per game (0.64) and 16th in 3-pt. field goals made per game (1.90).
The 6-8 forward was also named Third Team All-Conference.
Junior Konner Platt (Huntington, Ind., Huntington North HS) and sophomore Zac Owens (Anderson, Ind., Crispus Attucks HS) were also recognized by the league as Honorable Mention All-Conference picks.
For Platt, it’s his third year to receive postseason accolades from the league. The 6-2 guard finished the season as HU’s leading scorer at 16.4 points per game which currently ranks him 13th in league scoring.
The sharpshooter knocked down a team-best 74 threes at a clip of 43.0 percent which lands him 6th in 3-pointers made per game (2.47) and 11th in 3-point field goal percentage in the CL respectively. He also ranks 15th in the league in assist/TO ratio (2.08), 16th in field goal percentage (.476), 20th in assists per game (2.6) and 20th in defensive rebounds per game (3.77).
Owens had similar numbers to earn his spot on the HM team. He dropped in 15.64 points per outing in addition to topping the team in assists (3.1) and steals (.97). He holds several Top 15 rankings in the Crossroads League which includes claiming second in free throw percentage (.831), 12th in 3-point field goal percentage (.427), 13th in steals per game, 14th in field goal percentage (.490), 15th in scoring and 15th in assists per game.
The Foresters wrapped up the year with an overall record of 16-15.
