The Forester baseball team dropped a pair of games, 2-0, 13-7, to #RV IU Southeast on Friday at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. The losses drop Coach Frame’s crew to 3-2 on the year.

The opener was a pitcher’s duel as only six hits were allowed between the two teams. The Grenadiers got the better end of the deal by collecting five but it wasn’t until the sixth that they were able to convert that to runs on the scoreboard. They tapped into a pair of sacrifice flies after opening up their half of the frame with back-to-back singles to plate the game’s only runs.

DJ Moore took the loss for Huntington. He tossed the first 5.1 innings during which he gave up five hits, two runs and three walks while fanning seven. Alex McCutcheon pitched 2.2 innings of hitless, scoreless relief and gave up one walk while tallying five Ks.

The nightcap was in direct opposition to game one in that offense was plentiful. IU Southeast scored four times in their opening at bat and piled on six more runs in the fourth on the way to sprinting out to a 10-1 lead. While HU outscored them 6-3 the rest of the way, the damage was already done as the Grenadiers cruised to their third straight win as they move to 5-3 on the season.

Huntington finished with nine base pokes to IUSE’s 19. Daniel Lichty was the lone Forester to log a hit for extra bases as he claimed two hits and scored twice. Ian McCutcheon posted a hit and two RBI. Jarrett Gray, Matt Kunce and Eli Knust also notched an RBI for HU.

Starting pitcher Caleb Landrum took the loss for the Foresters, giving up ten hits, nine runs and three walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings of work. Mason Shinabery spent the final 4.2 innings on the mound where he surrendered eight hits, four runs and a walk while working five strikeouts.

Huntington is back in action on Tuesday at IU Kokomo for a single nine at 3:00 p.m.
