A partial HU track and field team participated in the 2019 Flag City Open hosted by the University of Findlay on Saturday for one last shot at qualifying for nationals.

Adrien Gentie’s performance in the mile highlighted the weekend. The sophomore harrier punched his ticket to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships by clocking in at 4:21.64. It will be his first trip to the big stage as he moves into the No. 2 spot in the HU record books, second only to HU coach Nick Johnson.

Aspen Dirr added another tally to her long list of qualifying events for nationals by hitting the A mark in the 1,000 meters in a winning time and program record of 2:58.46. She has now qualified for five individual events and a relay. She also won the 600 meters and posted the fourth fastest time in HU history by running a 1:39.84.

Other notable performances included Elijah Chesterman who finished first in the 1,000 meters in a PR 2:34.23. Cameron Worsham also ran a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.71 to just miss qualifying for nationals by a tenth of a second. CJ Robertson (1:23.59) and Josiah Sovine (1:24.42) finished second and third respectively in the 600 meters while Molly Mitchell (1:40.83) claimed third in the 600 meters on the women’s side.

The 2019 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships are slated for February 28 – March 2 in Brookings, S.D.
