BOWLING
The Huntington bowling teams were in action on Saturday to compete in the WHAC Jamboree #4. Held at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights, Mich., it was the Foresters’ last regular season conference tournament and featured four traditional and four baker games.
The HU women, ranked 15th nationally, claimed third out of 12 teams with a score of 6,358 behind Brianna Cearbaugh (188.75 average) and Heidi Tucker (184.25 average). The duo both made the All-Tournament Team by finishing third and fifth respectively in individual play.
Abby Atkins also turned in a solid performance by averaging 178.00 for 14th place. The women started the day strong, leading the tournament early but missed too many spares throughout the day to maintain the lead.
“I think the ladies are heading in a good direction with the Hoosier Classic coming up soon,” said Coach Shockey. “The seniors stepped this weekend with Brianna, Heidi and Abby all finishing in the top 15.”
With this weekend wrapping up league play, the Forester women finished second overall in the conference standings. This is the first year the bowling program has competed as part of the WHAC.
On the men’s side, Huntington posted a total of 6,431 pins to claim eighth out of 13 teams. Austin Schultz paced Shockey’s crew with a 184.25 average while Justin Coleman posted a 181.25 average. The Foresters finish the regular season in the No. 7 spot in the WHAC standings.
The Foresters have a break until Feb. 16-17 when they compete in the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl in Indianapolis.
