VOLLEYBALL

Five Forester volleyball players earned All-Conference honors as announced by the Crossroads League earlier this afternoon.

Sophomore Brandy Michie, one of the league’s most ferocious hitters, earned a spot on the Second Team. The 5-9 outside hitter topped the Foresters in hitting with 304 kills for an average kill per set of 2.5, the 12th best in the league. She also wrapped up the year with 27 blocks.

“Brandy snuck up on some people early, but once she showed what she could do she became a matchup nightmare for a lot of teams in our league,” commented Shondell.

Joining her on the Second Team was classmate Paige Eakright. The 5-10 outside always found ways to get the job done for her team. She posted 267 kills on the year to go along with registering 28 aces, 166 digs and 27 blocks.

“Paige was as consistent a player as any we had this season,” noted Shondell. “When we needed a kill, she found a way to score; when we needed fired up, she led the charge.”

For the second straight, year, senior Tailor Schultheis was voted Honorable Mention. The 5-10 outside hitter brought a contagious energy to the team. She racked 245 kills and 41 blocks this fall.

Sophomore Jenna Tacosik rounds out HU’s All-League designations by garnering Honorable Mention accolades. The 5-8 setter collected over 1,000 assists this season to hold the 5th spot in the league in total assists with 1,030. She currently tops the Crossroads League in aces with 62.

Sophomore Ariene Butler, a member of last year’s All-Freshmen Team, was also tabbed an Honorable Mention pick for her work as a defensive specialist. She ranks 3rd among her league peers in total digs with a team-best 659. Additionally, she logged a team-best 545 receptions with a passing accuracy of .912.

“Tailor, Jenna, and Ariene all deserve All-League honors,” said Shondell. “Each were asked to do a lot of different things for us to be successful and each responded and got stronger as the season wore on.

“These are players that have absolutely earned this honor, and the fact that we’re talking about four sophomores being honored only speaks toward a very bright future for Forester Volleyball.”

Huntington wrapped up the year with an overall record of 10-25. They finished 7th in the regular season conference standings with a record of 6-12.
