WOMEN’S SOCCER

Senior Millie Adams was the Forester women’s soccer team’s hero Saturday afternoon at Morey Field as it was her golden goal just over five minutes into OT that lifted HU to a 1-0 win over Bethel College.

It was the last regular season match with postseason play on line for the visitors. HU entered the day in the #9 spot in the conference standings so anything short of a win would have meant a season cut short. Instead, the W catapulted Burge and crew into the 7th spot in the final standings.

The 7th-seeded Foresters (5-12-1, 2-6-1) will face 2nd-seeded Grace in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament slated for Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

Adams’ game-winner found far post side netting in the 96th minute to bring an abrupt halt to a hard-fought battle. After beating her defender off the dribble, the Leo native blasted a shot outside the 18 for what proved her second goal of the season and the second game-winner of her career.

HU outshot their hosts 16-10 with both teams collecting two corner kicks. Autumn Demott gathered six saves on the way to earning the shutout in frame. Today’s shutout is the Foresters’ fourth of the year.

“After a hard fought season of near misses and tough defeats, today’s win feels incredible,” said Burge. “The ladies battled hard all the way into overtime and got the job done.

“We are looking forward to practice on Monday and prepping for our postseason challenge on Wednesday.”
