VOLLEYBALL

Luckey Arena wasn’t so lucky for the Huntington volleyball team (9-22, 5-10) Wednesday night as they suffered a 3-0 loss, 25-14, 25-15, 25-20, to #RV Indiana Wesleyan. Sweeps have become the norm for the Wildcats. Of their 19 wins, 16 have been three-set victories.

While it wasn’t the result Shondell and crew were hoping for, the skipper was still able to pull several positives. “Honestly, we did some really good things tonight. We had a lot of people taking good swings and our setters did a nice job of mixing up the offense.”

Three Foresters in Brandy Michie, Lindsay Ingenito and Lauren Cresse finished with six kills apiece to spearhead HU’s balanced attack. Breanna Levings and Jenna Tacosik shared the setting load by handing out 14 and ten assists respectively.

Defensively the visitors posted three blocks and logged 32 digs with Ariene Butler pacing the backline with 15 digs.

IWU (19-11, 12-4) had a slow start to the season but have worked their way into the top three in the league standings to become one of the league’s best.

“At the end of the day, to beat a team like that on the road, you need a peak performance and we just didn’t have that tonight,” noted Shondell.

HU, currently tied for seventh in the standings, has three regular season matches remaining before postseason begins on November 3. Next up is a road trip to Mount Vernon on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. start with the Cougars.
