BOWLING

The HU bowling team participated in the Columbia 300 Western Shootout over the weekend where the women finished in 8th out of 27 teams and then men ended up 13th out of 30.

The tournament format featured six traditional team games on Saturday and 15 baker games on Sunday.

On the women’s side, the Foresters scored 4,977 pins on day one for the 8th spot heading into Sunday’s games. While the new day included HU having to battle a new oil pattern, Shockey’s crew cashed in on 2,449 pins to hold their spot. Senior Brianna Cearbaugh paced Huntington with a six-game average of 185 for a 10th place finish individually.

“The ladies continue to show they are a committed to being one team with one goal,” noted Shockey. “While this wasn’t the finish we wanted to see, it was learning experience we’ll use to get better for our next tournament.”

The HU men knocked down 5,439 pins on Saturday to find themselves in 12th place. However, Sunday started with a lane breakdown and the delay in getting started seemed to derail the Foresters from getting off to the start they needed to make up pins. They finished the day with 2,518 pins to fall one spot to 13th by day’s end.

Justin Coleman had a strong outing to lead Huntington. The senior averaged 210 for six games and a 5th place finish individually to earn All-Tournament honors.

“Justin was a great example for the team this weekend,” said Shockey. “He struggled in game four but made a big move on the lane and finished the day with games of 279 and 246 to earn his first All-Tournament Team honor.”

So far this season, the Foresters have placed someone on the All-Tournament Team at every event. Next up for Shockey and crew is the WHAC Jamboree #2 on November 10.
