The HU women’s soccer team suffered its fourth league loss, a 3-1 decision, to Mount Vernon Nazarene University (10-4-2, 3-3) Wednesday afternoon at King Stadium
The loss drops the Foresters to 4-11 on the year, 1-4 in conference action. With three regular season matches remaining, Huntington is currently tied with Bethel for seventh in the CL standings.
It was a four-minute implosion right after intermission that did the Foresters in. It was an all-out battle in the opening 45 minutes with defense reining supreme as neither team could find back netting for goose eggs at halftime.
Unfortunately, a chance to regroup for the visitors spelled disaster for HU as MVNU scored three times starting in the 53rd minute to bolt out to a 3-0 lead by the 56:24 mark.
A stunned Forester crew got one back just over ten minutes later, a screamer from 35 out by Matea Knispel, to pull within two but defense for both teams went back to lockdown mode the rest of the way to make for the 3-1 final.
Knispel leads the team in scoring with ten goals on the season. The senior midfielder has found the back of the net 35 times during her career in Forester green and white.
HU finished with 12 shots, seven on target, to Mount Vernon’s 21. Danielle Dehner collected five saves on her way to being charged with the loss in frame.
Next up for Burge and crew is a trip to Upland on Saturday to take on the #RV Trojans of Taylor University at 7:00 p.m.
