WOMEN’S SOCCER
It wasn’t how senior day was supposed to go Saturday afternoon at King Stadium as the Forester women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in OT to Goshen. The W is the Maple Leafs’ first league win as they improve to 1-5 in conference action, 5-6-2 overall while HU drops to 4-10 overall, 1-4 in the CL.
The loss wasn’t without effort from Burge’s crew as they racked up 25 shots, 13 on frame, but just couldn’t find back netting. Matea Knispel finished with eight shots, three on target, while Jordan Adam and Ashtyn Patrick mustered four shots apiece.
The Maple Leafs were limited to just ten shots but it only takes one as Lauren Cernak experienced firsthand when she buried a blast top drawer 2:26 into the extra period for the golden goal. Autumn Demott took the loss in goal for HU. The senior keeper finished with seven saves.
“Today’s loss is a big hit as we celebrated our seniors and their time at HU. They have led, and continue to lead, so well even in a season when our match results haven’t always been favorable.
“We love this group of women dearly and can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for their futures!”
Huntington takes to the pitch again on Wednesday to host Mount Vernon at 4:00 p.m.
Coach Burge recognized her 11 seniors prior to kick-off. HUWS seniors include Millie Adams, Mikala Avina, Morgan Anderson, Danielle Boxill, Jaime Calvin, Autumn Demott, Abby Field, Tessy Geiss, Kat Hightstead, Matea Knispel, Blaire Koomler.
