WOMEN’S SOCCER

Freshman Courtney McKown was a human highlight reel in the first half. After assisting Tessy Geiss 16 minutes into the contest for the early 1-0 lead, the rookies scored twice over the next 16 minutes to send her team into the locker room with a 3-0 advantage. She then put the finishing touches on the lopsided affair by finding the back of the net again in the waning minutes of the contest for the rare hat trick.

Matea Knispel picked up where McKown left off by starting the second half with a penalty kick. She blistered another shot back netting shortly after USF’s only goal to push her total to two for the game, nine for the season and a 5-1 HU lead.

Huntington’s sixth goal came at the foot of Abby Adams, her first collegiate goal, after which McKown chalked up her third goal of the game on a breakaway to wrap up HU’s scoring fest.

“We stepped foot on the pitch today with a focus on execution, and the ladies certainly followed through,” said Burge. “They have been working day in and day out to dial in the precision aspects of our game so it feels great to see it all come together today.”

The Foresters finished with 26 shots, half on frame, to USF’s six. Autumn Demott picked up a pair of saves on her way to posting the win in net.

HU is back at King Stadium on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day where they will host Goshen at 1:00 p.m.
