MEN’S SOCCER
After two extra periods, the Huntington men’s soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate at Saint Francis (4-6-3, 1-2-2) Wednesday afternoon. It’s HU’s first tie in league play as they move to 3-1-1 in CL action, 8-4-2 overall.
Today was HU’s sixth clean sheet of the year but it wasn’t exactly how they would have scripted it as it also marks their second 0-0 draw, the first against Manchester on September 19. The Foresters held possession most of the match to generate quality opportunities but just couldn’t crack USF’s stingy defense.
Behind five shots apiece from Matheus Louzada and Jake Erlandson, the Foresters posted 26 shots, 13 on frame, while limiting the Cougars to just seven shots in 110 minutes of play.
Gabe Greenfield went the distance in goal to finish with six saves.
“Today was a hard fought game,” said Coach Lawson. “Saint Francis is difficult to breakdown. We had the majority of the ball but they aligned themselves well and were very organized.
“I thought the chances we did create were quality, we just didn’t have that finishing touch today. It’s frustrating that we dropped a couple of points tonight but gaining a point on the road in our league is one of several positives we take away from this match as we continue to move forward and keep working.”
The Foresters hit the road again on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Goshen.
