The HU men’s soccer team notched its second consecutive conference W with a 3-1 decision over Marian University (5-4-1, 1-2) Wednesday night at King Stadium. The win pushes the Foresters to 2-1 in league play, 7-4-1 overall.
It was another dominate performance by the home team as they outshot the Knights 16-4 but more importantly sprang out to a 2-0 advantage within the opening 30 minutes. Val De Coninck posted both goals within six minutes of each other, his first when he snuck in behind to bury a pass from Matheus Louzada and the second when he chipped the keeper on a ball served in by Ty Sproat.
The Knights got one back early in the second half to pull within one and ensure their hosts didn’t get too comfortable. But ten minutes later at the 61:10 mark, Guilherme Lins Sousa threaded a pass into Louzada who had an open net to give their team a little more breathing room.
The goal was Louzada’s fourth of the season and proved to be the game’s final score. The Foresters have posted three straight wins over Marian which includes outscoring their league foe 7-2 during this stretch.
“This was another great conference win for us,” said Coach Lawson. “And I felt like the boys did it in convincing fashion. Right from the start we controlled possession and the opportunities.
“We look forward to carrying this momentum into our match on Saturday against a very strong Bethel squad.”
Lawson’s crew hosts the Pilots on Saturday of HU’s homecoming. Kick-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
