WOMEN’S SOCCER

The #RV Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats had numbers in the opening half to sprint out to a 3-0 advantage on the way to a 3-1 win over the Forester women’s soccer team at King Stadium Saturday afternoon.

IWU scored all three of their goals, two from Tia Sanford, within a five-minute span starting in the 26th minute for their early lead. It may have stunned the hosts initially but Matea Knispel kept things interesting with a rocket from 35 out to get one back at the 36:42 mark.

The goal is her seventh of the year. She came up inches short of an eighth goal just before halftime when she blasted another shot just right of the far post. She finished the day with eight shots, four on frame.

As a team, HU finished with 12 shots, half of which were on target. Danielle Dehner collected eight saves between the posts in the losing effort.

“After a tough first half against a fast Indiana Wesleyan side, we made some adjustments in the second half were able to put together a great half of possession and solids looks at the net,” said Coach Burge. “We’re anxious to continue with that second half momentum on Wednesday.”

The Foresters (3-8, 0-2) are on the road on Wednesday at Marian for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Knights.
