MEN’S GOLF
Playing on two different courses over the weekend, the Huntington men’s golf team finished sixth at the Saint Francis Invitational by shooting a 64-over-par 640. Playing at Cherry Hill on Friday, the Foresters turned in a 325 before slicing ten strokes off that on Saturday at Autumn Ridge with a 315.
Logan De Maa fired a seven-over-par 151 (75, 76) to finish first for Sholund’s crew. He tied for fifth out of 48 golfers.
Cale Carr finished 14th with a 157 (80, 77). Zakry Cummings carded a 163 (82, 81) for 24th. Rounding out HU’s top five was Keith Mineer with a 169 (88, 81) and Andrew Weisheit with a 178 (88, 90).
David Beck (89, 86) and Lucas Witzigreuter (88, 99) played as individuals and posted a 175 and 187 respectively.
“The final result is obviously not what we are looking for,” said Sholund. “The team knows that they put better scores together than this. We have struggled with the putter these past couple of events and I know this squad will work through it and get on track.
“I feel positive about what I see from them and proud of how they compete for 18 holes no matter what. I look forward to seeing the momentum switch. They are all very good players and I trust they will turn it around.”
Indiana Wesleyan topped the field with a 609 followed by Saint Francis (613), Mount Vernon (619), Wheaton (630), Grace (632), HU (640) and Bethel (669).
Next up for the Foresters is the Egypt Valley Championship on October 8-9 at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Mich.
