WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Grace women’s soccer team extended its win streak to six by handing the Foresters a 3-0 loss on opening day of league play at 1st Source Bank Field. The loss drops HU to 3-7 on the year, 0-1 in conference action while the Lancers improve to 9-1 overall, 1-0 in CL play.
The Lancers boast a stubborn defense that entered the evening ranked 3rd in the NAIA in shutouts with six. That total now stands at seven which includes three straight clean sheets. GC also has one of the most potent offenses as evidenced by their No. 9 ranking in total goals (34) coming into tonight’s match.
The combination was lethal for the visitors as Grace struck early in the match and then piled on two more goals in the final 25 minutes all while keeping the Foresters from finding back netting to make for the lopsided final.
“This was certainly not the start we were looking for in conference play,” noted Coach Burge. “A well-organized, fast Grace side made it difficult to stay in our flow of play but we saw some great grit and periods of possession just the same!”
HU finished with 12 shots, five on target, to Grace’s 21, eight of which were on frame.
Danielle Dehner was charged with the loss in net for HU. The freshman keeper collected five saves in the losing effort.
The Foresters will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Indiana Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m.
