MEN’S GOLF

Two members of the HU men’s golf team competed as individuals at Bethel College’s Battle at Blackthorn over the weekend.

Senior Logan De Maa claimed 15th out of 51 golfers by firing an 11-over-par 155. The Wisconsin native posted a 78 on Friday before carding a 77 on Saturday.

“Logan continues to be consistent and his confidence is growing,” said Sholund. “He’s had a slump going with his putter so the good scores he has now will get even better as he sorts that out.”

Playing in his first collegiate match, freshman Lucas Witzigreuter finished the weekend with a 181 by turning in a 94 after the first round and an 87 on Saturday for the 49th spot.

“After a rough start, Lucas responded well,” said Sholund. “If he could’ve kept the big numbers off the board he would’ve been much more satisfied with his round and I am sure he will learn to do this as he grows as a college player.”

The Foresters will compete in the Bill Bockwitz Classic hosted by Spring Arbor on September 24-25.
