WOMEN’S SOCCER

The HU women’s soccer team wrapped the nonconference portion of their season in convincing fashion Wednesday afternoon with a 5-0 win over Bluffton University at King Stadium.

Matea Knispel was a one-person wrecking crew for Burge’s squad. The Fort Wayne native scored on either side of an extremely unselfish assist in the first half to send her team into halftime with a 3-0 lead. She struck again with 17 minutes to go for the hat trick raising her season goal total to six.

The benefactor of Knispel’s assist was Jordan Adam for an easy tap-in in the 25th minute. The goal for Adam was her third of the year. She went on to return the favor with just under seven minutes remaining when she found Jessica Chojnacki who smoked it back netting for her first collegiate goal.

The game was never in question as the Foresters logged a season-high 45 shots, 23 on frame, to the Beavers’ three. Autumn Demott collected three saves on her way to earning the shutout win in net.

The W is Huntington’s sixth consecutive win over Bluffton and their second clean sheet of the year.

“Tonight’s win was a great way to wrap up nonconference play,” said Burge. “Now we look forward to conference starting next Wednesday.

“We are excited to see the work put in during the first half of our season pay off in league play.”

The Foresters (3-6) kick-off Crossroads League action with a road trip to Grace on Wednesday for a match under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
