VOLLEYBALL

The Huntington volleyball team struggled to get much going Wednesday night against Indiana Wesleyan in a three-set match, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16, that favored the visiting Wildcats. The loss is HU’s third straight in the league as they drop to 4-9 overall, 1-4 in conference play.

IWU has put together back-to-back wins as they improve to 4-9 overall, 3-2 in league action. The Wildcats registered their best hitting percentage (.319) of the season tonight in Platt Arena to finish with 44 kills behind Ana Collar’s 13.

“Indiana Wesleyan is plenty good and played really well tonight,” said Shondell. “We just weren’t able to match their level of intensity for three whole sets.”

HU, at the other end of the spectrum, logged a season-low .037 hitting percentage to make for a lethal position for Shondell’s crew as they managed just 19 kills on the evening. Lauren Cresse finished with five kills while Paige Eakright added four.

Shondell liked what he saw initially when the Foresters bolted in front 3-0. His squad would go on to enjoy the lead a handful of times after that including a 10-9 tilt in that first set but unfortunately it proved their last advantage of the night.

“We came out the exact way we needed to, full of energy and super aggressive, but once we let up, we gave away our edge.”

Huntington will look to turn things around on Friday when they travel to Grace for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Lancers.
