WOMEN’S GOLF
The HU women’s golf team was a picture of consistency at the Battle at Brookwood, an invitational the Foresters have hosted for the second straight year, by firing a 339 on Monday before turning in a 338 on Tuesday to finish fifth out of nine teams with an overall score of 677.
Held at Brookwood Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Betsy Schroeder paced Coach Sholund’s squad by posting a 157 (80, 77) to finish tied for ninth out of 46 golfers.
Alexandria Maris carded a 165 (82, 83) for 18th. Rachel Blauert took 30th with a 177 (86, 91) while Olivia Kreiger (92-87–179) and Megan Higgins (91-93–184) claimed 31st and 34th respectively.
A second Forester crew competed in the invite as well. Sophie Frazier finished first in this group with a 192 (95, 97). Katie Springer (99, 103) and Alayna Steely (110, 92) each turned in a 202 while Sara Scott shot a 209 (104, 105).
“It was good to see Betsy and Alexandria continue to play well,” said Sholund. “They are learning how to compete week in and week out and that is important to have in a successful program.
“The entire squad is showing signs of improvement but we must focus around the greens to get our scores down,” noted Sholund. “We look forward to a solid week of practice before we head to the Pilot Invitational.”
Indiana Tech took home the title with a 610 followed by Indiana Wesleyan (612), Grace (643), Spring Arbor (669), HU (677), Indiana Wesleyan B (685), Grace B (699), Mount Vernon (715) and HU B (805).
Huntington is back at it on September 21-22 to compete in the Battle at Blackthorn in South Bend hosted by Bethel College.
