WOMEN’S SOCCER

The HU women’s soccer team headed to Grand Rapids on Friday to take on its first WHAC opponent of the weekend, Cornerstone University, and came out on the short end of a 2-1 decision.

The Foresters struck first when Matea Knispel found upper netting on a set piece for a 1-0 lead at the 37:07 mark, an advantage they would hold through the rest of the period. Unfortunately, it wasn’t lasting as the Golden Eagles came out of halftime to score two minutes in and then again less than five minutes later.

The 2-1 difference was enough for CU to ride out for the win. Shots were similar with the Cornerstone holding an 11-7 edge. They also enjoyed a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Autumn Demott took the loss in frame, finishing with six saves.

While it wasn’t the result Coach Burge was hoping for, she remains optimistic about the direction her team is headed. “Every time we step on the field we put more and more of the puzzle together.

“Tonight followed suit. As things continue to click, we will get the results we are looking for, and for that we are all excited.”

Huntington (1-4) takes to the pitch again tomorrow night to face another WHAC foe in Aquinas at 7:00 p.m.
