WOMEN’S TENNIS
The 7-2 loss suffered by the HU women’s tennis team wasn’t necessarily an accurate reflection of the battle Coach Ferguson’s squad had with Marian University Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis.
Rain delayed the match, and, unfortunately, the Knights seemed to bounce back from the time lapse better than their visitors.
“We were playing well until a rain delay that lasted quite a while slowed down our momentum,” said Coach Ferguson. “To be honest, Marian handled the restart better than we did.”
Huntington earned its first point at #1 doubles before the rain came. Meg Dolde and Morgan Fitzpatrick teamed up to outlast Maria Angela Sunga and Laura Kuebler 9-7.
Fitzpatrick would go on to earn her team’s only other point by beating Sunga 6-4, 7-6 (6) at #2 singles.
With this loss, the Foresters move to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in league play. Next up is HU’s home opener against Grace at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
