WOMEN’S SOCCER

The HU women’s soccer team had their way with Manchester University Friday night at King Stadium by running away with a 7-0 win over the Spartans.

Since 2008, the Foresters have logged seven straight wins over MU, with tonight’s score matching HU’s largest margin of victory over their neighbors to the northwest.

Huntington needed just 32 seconds for Matea Knispel to connect with Millie Adams to seize a lead that was never challenged. For Adams, it was her first goal of the year, second of her career. Knispel’s assist was just the start of things to come as the senior midfielder would go on to score HU’s third and sixth goal of the day as well as dish out another assist.

Well beyond the 18, junior Bailey O’Dell lofted a shot over the outstretched hands of MU keeper Caroline Smith at the 11:19 mark to double HU’s lead at 2-0. The goal is O’Dell’s first of her career.

Freshman Courtney McKown and sophomore Jordan Adam also collected maiden goals. The pair scored within six minutes of each in the middle of the first period on either side of Knispel’s goals, after which senior Jaime Calvin capped things off just before halftime with her team’s seventh and final goal of the evening.

When all was said and done, Burge’s crew enjoyed 29 shots, 18 on frame, while limiting their visitors to just two shots. HU tallied all seven of their goals in the first 42 minutes in a match where 27 Foresters took the pitch.

“We were able to possess the ball tonight in a fashion we knew the crew had but had not been able to see yet this season,” said Burge. “With that possession came great opportunities which we were able to capitalize on from multiple players, which is always great to see.”

In her first collegiate start, freshman Danielle Dehner earned the clean sheet in frame. The Foresters (1-2) are back in action on Wednesday to host Siena Heights at 4:00 p.m.
