WOMEN’S SOCCER

Madonna (2-0) scored just before halftime before finding the back of the net three times in the final 45 minutes to run away with a 4-0 win over the HU women’s soccer team Wednesday afternoon at the MU Athletic Complex.

While play mainly stayed on one side of the field in the first half as evidenced by the Crusaders posting 18 shots to HU’s three, it didn’t translate to points on the scoreboard. Burge’s crew held MU scoreless through the opening 41 minutes before Megan Verant finally cracked HU’s defense at the 41:14 mark for a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Play was much more balanced in the second period with Madonna holding a slight 6-4 shot advantage. Unfortunately, the Crusaders made good on half their attempts to stretch the lead to 4-0 by game’s end, scoring all three of their goals within a 16-minute span starting in the 62nd minute.

Courtney McKown finished with three shots, all three on frame, to lead HU offensively. Autumn Demott took the loss in goal. The senior keeper finished with ten saves.

The Foresters (0-2) are back in action on Friday for their home opener against Manchester at 6:00 p.m.
