MEN’S SOCCER

The HU men’s soccer team swept the league’s weekly honors for the week of August 27 as announced by the Crossroads League office earlier today. Senior Matheus Louzada was named this week’s Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore transfer Gabe Greenfield garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Foresters kicked off the season with a 3-1 upset over #15 Madonna University Saturday afternoon with Louzada leading the charge. Last year’s CL Midfielder of the Year slotted a ball far post in the opening half to give his team an early 1-0 and then found back netting again with just over three minutes remaining for what proved the game-winner.

Louzada boasts 18 career goals, eight of which have been game-winners.

In his first start as a Forester, Greenfield picked up the win in frame to earn this week’s defensive league honor. The 6-1 Brazilian gave up just one goal while collecting four saves against the nationally ranked Crusaders.

Huntington (1-0) is back in action on Wednesday to host Calumet College of St. Joseph at 5:00 p.m.
