A handful of Foresters from the men’s track and field team made the trip up north to compete in Hillsdale’s Last Chance Classic Thursday afternoon.
Over 30 men’s teams were represented with Huntington collecting 14 points on the day. Individually, Adam Woods brought home the highest finish for HU by claiming 3rd in javelin with his toss of 119-09. The 4×100 meter relay team of Heath Atkins, Bradey Gerke, Peyton Depriest and Avniel Barrow also took 3rd by clocking in at 42.46.
Priest clocked in at 49.84 in the 400 meters for 7th place. Barrow toed the line in the 100 meters and posted an 11.04 for 9th place. Codi Wiersema represented Coach Childs’ crew in the 800 meters by running a 2:01.02 in the 800 meters for 11th place.
Thursday’s meet wraps up HU’s regular season with just NAIA Nationals left on the schedule.
Senior Brooks Gerke will be the lone Forester to compete in the 67th annual NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on May 24-26 at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Auburn native is seeded 20th in pole vault based on his mark of 15-3 on April 14 at the Huntington Invitational. This will be Gerke’s third trip to nationals as he represented Huntington at indoor nationals in 2015 and 2017 as a heptathlete.
The pole vault competition will take place on May 26 at 1PM CDT.
