Three Foresters earned All-Conference honors by finishing in the top three of his or her respective event at the 2018 Crossroads League Championships hosted by Marian University.

On the men’s side, sophomore Avniel Barrow claimed his first All-League badge by taking 2nd in the 100 meters in 10.91. He also earned points for the Foresters with his 4th-place finish in the 200 meters by clocking in at 22.35.

Freshman Peyton Depriest also received All-Conference honors by running a PR 48.74 in the 400 meters, the second fastest time recorded in HU history, to finish 2nd. The rookie also sprinted his way to 6th place in the 200 meters in 22.45.

The duo teamed up with Heath Atkins and Bradey Gerke to set a new school record in the 4×100 meter relay by running a 42.0 to finish 4th and miss the qualifying mark for NAIA Nationals by a mere .01 seconds.

Other Foresters to earn points for their team included Brooks Gerke (6th, 4.35m) and Luke Fillers (7th, 4.20 m*PR) in pole vault, Adam Woods in javelin (6th, 43.44m), the 4×800 meter relay team (7th, 8:10.24) and the 4×400 meter relay team (8th, 3:27.19).

As a team, Childs’ crew finished 7th out of ten teams. Marian claimed the men’s title with 172 followed by IWU (166), Bethel (153), Taylor (99), Mount Vernon (79), Grace (54), HU (40), Spring Arbor (35), Saint Francis (16) and Goshen (5).

Freshman Benedicte Nzombi-Fenner was the lone Forester to earn All-Conference accolades for the Huntington women by finishing 3rd in the 200 meters in 26.05. She was one spot back from claiming a second All-League badge in the 100 meters by posting a time of 12.65 for 4th place.

A pair of other rookies in Alyssabeth Cottle and Breanna Metz also earned points in an individual event with Cottle taking 5th in pole vault with a mark of 2.90 meters and Metz enjoying 8th in high jump with a leap of 1.41 meters.

Huntington’s points were rounded out by three relay teams. The 4×100 meter relay team of Mariah Harter, Nicole Pennington, Tayia Meadows and Elise Cormany finished 5th in 49.55. The 4×400 meter relay team of Molly Mitchell, Jessica Chojnacki, Jordan Adam and Pennington claimed 7th in 4:13.83. Bianca Tisdale joined Chojnacki, Mitchell and Adam on the 4×800 meter relay to run a 10:13.47 for 8th place.

The Forester women finished 8th out of ten teams. Taylor ran away with the women’s title with 207 points followed by IWU (157), Marian (149), Spring Arbor (88.5), Bethel (63), Mount Vernon (43), Saint Francis (26), HU (21.5), Goshen (10) and Grace (9).

A partial HU roster will compete in the Dr. Keeler Invitational slated for May 11-12.
