Freshman Nick Davit’s two-run bomb in the bottom of the eighth put into effect the ten-run rule as the 3rd-seeded HU baseball teams cruises past 6th-seeded Goshen College 12-1 on day one of the Crossroads League Tournament at Taylor’s Winterholter Field.
Davit’s dinger, his fifth of the season, was the second of two four-baggers for HU with the first coming at the bat of Adrian Perez in the seventh. Perez’s solo shot was the first of seven runs Huntington scored in the frame to turn their 2-1 lead into a 9-1 blowout.
The Foresters would send 12 batters to the plate in their big inning. They sifted through four Maple Leaf pitchers with Perez proving to be their biggest menace. The junior right fielder doubled in two more runs in his second trip to the plate to finish the inning, and game, with two hits and three RBI.
Adam Roser also posted big numbers for Frame’s crew with two base knocks that plated two runs each time. Davit added two hits and three RBI. Donovan Clark pounded out three hits and scored three times while Tyler Zimske roped a double and logged a single to finish with a pair of hits.
Connor West earned the win on the hill. He tossed the first seven frames and gave up six hits, one run and a walk while striking out eight before Mason Shinabery offered an inning of scoreless relief.
The Foresters (19-22) are back in action tomorrow at 1PM to face 2nd-seeded Taylor.
