The Huntington track and field program made the short trip to Winona Lake on Saturday to compete in the Grace College’s Lancer Invitational where the HU women claimed second while the men finished third.

As has been the case most of the year, sprints highlighted the HU women’s performances. The 100 meters saw the Foresters claim three of the top six spots with Nicole Pennington winning it all in 12.67. Benedicte Nzombi-Fenner clocked in at the same time for 2nd place while Tayia Meadows finished 6th in 13.55.

Huntington was also well represented in the 200 meters with Nzombi-Fenner (26.80) and Pennington (27.50) claiming first and third respectively. Pennington was also a member of the 4×100 meter relay team, along with Mariah Harter, Meadows and Elise Cormany, that took 2nd in by clocking in at 51.59.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Jessica Chojnacki, Molly Mitchell, Jordan Adam and Bianca Tisdale also brought home a 2nd place finish for another eight points bringing Huntington’s point total in sprints to 53 points.

Breanna Metz (1.45m) and Alyssabeth Cottle (2.80m) placed 2nd in long jump and pole vault respectively.

Other point getters for HU included Chojnacki in the 800 meters (8th, 2:39.83), Tisdale in the 1500 meters (4th, 5:16..64), Madison Hoover in long jump (4th, 4.35m), Brooke Saylor in shot put (5th, 10.58m) and javelin (4th, 28.05m), Emily Wellsand in shot put (8th, 9.75m), Holly Holton in discus (4th, 34.09m) and Metz in javelin (7th, 25.34m).

Bethel won the women’s title with 146 points followed by HU (97), Trinity Christian (83), Saint Francis (71), Goshen (66), Grace (44), Trine (20) and Indiana Wesleyan (8).

Sophomore Avniel Barrow established a new PR in the 100 meters by clocking in at 10.85 good for 1st place. Peyton Depriest took 2nd in the 200 meters in 22.43 while Heath Atkins ran a PR 22.93 to claim 4th. Atkins also earned points for his team in long jump by finishing 2nd with a mark of 6.06 meters.

This trio along with Bradey Gerke teamed up to win the 4×100 meter relay in 43.57. HU’s 4×400 meter relay team of CJ Robertson, Codi Wiersema, Gerke and Depriest also took 1st place by posting a time of 3:35.24.

Brooks Gerke (4.25m) and Luke Fillers (3.95m) took 2nd and 3rd in pole vault respectively.

Other point getters for HU included Wiersema in the 800 meters (5th, 2:02.84), Adrien Gentrie in the 1500 meters (3rd, 4:15.53) and Zach Williams in discus (7th, 36.0m).

Grace slipped past Bethel to win the men’s title with 176 points to BC’s 165.50 points followed by HU (80), Saint Francis (73.5), Trinity Christian (45) and Goshen (41).

The Crossroads League Championships are next on the docket for the Foresters on May 3-4.
