The Forester baseball team entered Wednesday’s home doubleheader tied with #RV Taylor (36-12, 16-7) for second in the league standings and after splitting with the Trojans, that stalemate remained as both teams are 1.5 games behind Indiana Wesleyan.
Game one favored TU 7-2 after which HU rebounded to lay claim to a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
The Trojans batted around in the first frame of the opener to establish an early 3-0 lead that wouldn’t be challenged. TU’s advantage stuck until the fourth when Hunter Losekamp singled in a run to pull his team within two, the closest HU would get as Taylor struck again in the sixth.
Huntington would go on to score once more in their half of the sixth. Donovan Clark tripled, his second in as many games, and then came around to score on Jamar Weaver’s RBI-groundout. While HU found home twice in the final four frames, Taylor doubled that in the latter innings to further distance themselves from their hosts for the final five-run difference.
Frame’s squad finished with three hits to TU’s ten. The visitors also benefited from four Forester errors to the tune of two unearned runs.
Mason Shinabery took the loss for HU. He spent six innings on the hill and gave up seven hits, five runs, three of which were earned, and two walks while striking out five.
Taylor entered the twin bill averaging nearly seven runs per game but DJ Moore made sure that didn’t happen on his watch. The junior hurler limited TU to just two runs, ten hits and three walks while striking out five in the nightcap to pick up the nine-inning complete-game win.
Tyler Zimske and Kyle Selvey got the Foresters going offensively by each posting two hits and an RBI. Zimske was the first to deliver an RBI-base poke by unloading a double in the bottom of the first to knock in Adam Roser who had singled just prior for the 1-0 advantage.
Selvey drove in HU’s next run in the fifth with a shot up the middle. The Trojans scored on either side of Selvey’s run-scoring single to force two ties before Losekamp had the last word by sending Roser home on an RBI-single in the eighth.
Losekamp is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak and has logged at least one RBI in each of the past four contests.
HU’s record stands at 17-18 overall, 15-6 in league play. They are back in action this weekend for a three-game home stand with Goshen.
