WOMEN’S GOLF
The Huntington women’s golf team finished fifth in its own Battle at Brookwood in Fort Wayne over the weekend. After posting a 330 on Friday, the Foresters fired a program-low 326 on Saturday for a solid performance against a tough field of competition.
Abby Poole turned in a 159 (80, 79) to claim 11th out of 35 golfers. Alexandria Maris carded a 162 (83, 79). Leah Thompson shot a 170 (88, 82). Rounding out HU’s top five included Betsy Schroeder with a 171 (79, 92) and Megan Higgins with a 180 (94, 86).
Four Foresters played as individuals which included Rachel Blauert (100-83–183), Sophie Frazier (91-100–191), Alayna Steely (101-99–200) and Sara Scott (105-104–209).
“We have made great strides in these past three events,” said Coach Sholund. “The ladies are competing very well. We hosted a tournament with four of the top 32 teams in the country and knew it would be a great challenge.
“This team is young and showing that they are capable of great things. We will now carry the momentum of a school record 326 today into conference and see how we stack up.”
Bethel won the invitational with a 623 followed by Indiana Wesleyan (627), Saint Francis (629), Marian (638) and HU (656).
Huntington wraps up the year with the Crossroads League Tournament on April 30 – May 1.
