Student Wellness Coach Program, Year VI – Second Call!

Wellness-conscious colleagues,

The Exercise Science program is again offering wellness services to HU faculty and staff during the spring semester. We will have approximately 20 spots open. I will collect all the interested individuals and have a lottery drawing to see who fills those spots. This program has been very successful for the last five years, and I anticipate another great year in 2014.

Please read the program information below:

Things to know about the program:

1. The Student Wellness Coaches (SWC) are senior exercise science majors enrolled in the EX465 – Senior Seminar in Exercise Prescription class.
2. The course instructor, Matthew D. Ruiz, is in charge of the program.
3. A $100 fee will be collected prior to beginning program. This amount is fully refundable upon successful completion (i.e., 25 sessions) of program.
4. The program will run for the duration of the spring semester.
5. At minimum, the SWC should meet with you twice a week or a total of 25 times during the semester.
6. During the initial meeting with your SWC, a health form will be collected from each client. Basic fitness data will be collected also.
7. While your name will be kept anonymous, we will use your program as case studies which will be discussed during the in-class portion of the course.
8. Because this is an educational experience for the SWCs, they may ask you to participate in various surveys, questionnaires, and activities (including nutritional consultation and psychosomatic inventories).
9. If issues arise during the program, please direct questions and concerns to the course instructor.

a. Personal training
b. Weight loss consultation
c. Nutritional consultation
d. Health status evaluation and consultation
e. Strength & conditioning
f. 5K, 10K, mini-marathon, marathon training
g. Core training
h. Cardiovascular training
i. Flexibility, speed, agility, balance, coordination training
j. Stress management & relaxation training
11. Services not offered:
a. Blood work
b. Dietary prescription
