HU FOUNDATION BREAKFAST SERIES – January 10

January 5, 2018 General Comments Off on HU FOUNDATION BREAKFAST SERIES – January 10 Posted By: Jan Yost

The Huntington University Foundation breakfast on Wednesday, January 10, will feature Jim O’Donnell’s famous edu-tainment. “We’re going to have some fun this January by having a tenth anniversary party in honor of the Great Recession of 2008. We’re going to look back at the scariness of it all while listening to the nattering nabobs who told us the ‘end is at hand’ over and over again,” stated O’Donnell. “We’ll see what can learn from this painful passage we all traveled along and endured, and how we now can put that learning to work for our own future stewardship of what God has given us.”

“Jim’s insightful economic review and projections are always one of the most popular programs in our breakfast series,” stated Michael Zahn, HU Foundation President.

The Foundation breakfast is open to the public. It begins at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons and concludes by 9:00 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $10.00, a portion of which will help support local area students attending HU through the Huntington County Grant. First-time attendees enjoy a complimentary breakfast courtesy of Bailey-Love Mortuary.

Founded in 1938, the Huntington University Foundation exists to support the mission of the university by promoting education and fostering a synergistic relationship between the university and the Huntington County community and surrounding area.

Take a moment and explore the upgraded Horizon webpages: www.huntington.edu/horizon-leadership-program. This is one of the latest updates in a series of continuous website upgrades that have been taking place over the last few months.

Did you know the webpages that have been upgraded to the new template have seen up to a 1:00 minute increase to the time spent on the webpage? In the world of web, that’s a significant increase that can be attributed, at least in part, to the improved content, navigation, and visual appeal of the webpages.

Huntington University OTD Students Publish in the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education

December 18, 2017 General Comments Off on Huntington University OTD Students Publish in the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education Posted By: Nathan Short

The broad spectrum of occupational therapy practice often limits inclusion of specialty content within the general curriculum which is designed to prepare graduates at a generalist level. Recently, several Huntington University OTD students developed a creative solution for students interested in the specialty area of hand therapy by forming the Huntington University Hand Interest Club. In the first year of the nascent club’s operation, students implemented evidence-based journal article review, related guest lectures and educational modules on advanced topics, a therapy-based service project, as well as publication of a peer-reviewed article in the Journal of Occupational Therapy Education (JOTE), outlining their club as a model for inclusion of specialty content in occupational therapy curriculum. Their peer-reviewed article is open-access and the full-text can be found here: https://encompass.eku.edu/jote/vol1/iss3/6/.

The club has outlined their Spring semester agenda including hosting the outgoing president of the American Society of Hand Therapists, Gary Solomon, for an educational module on custom orthotic fabrication which will serve as a rich supplement to their foundational orthopedic and hand-related content. The club members have also been able to network with hand therapists nationwide and many will be completing Level II clinical rotations at some top hand surgery and therapy centers across the country.

Our students continue to exceed expectations and leave a legacy of Christ, Scholarship, & Service here at HU!
