Jetty Rae and Heath McNease are coming to Huntington TONIGHT, September 29th to play music from their latest album “I Disappear”, under the name The Pen Pals, their folk/song-writer duo project. The concert will be held at the 509 Community at 509 E. State Street in Huntington. Tickets at $10 and can be purchased in advance online or at the door. The show begins at 7:30 and will conclude at 9:00 pm. Both Jetty and Heath are from the Midwest, have been featured on previous HUzic CDs, and have played on campus in years past. AGP 5K Fun Run

Alpha Gamma Pi sorority’s annual 5K Homecoming Fun Run/Walk is Saturday, October 7. The Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Plex. You can pre-register for the Run/Walk at https://www.huntington.edu/homecoming or you can register at the Plex from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. on the morning of the race. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 for students who are at least 14 years old, and $5 for children under 14. The registration fee includes a t-shirt. This is a great way to begin your Homecoming Saturday!

Alpha Gamma Pi sorority’s annual 5K Homecoming Fun Run/Walk is Saturday, October 7. The Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:00 a.m., in front of the Plex. You can pre-register for the Fun Run at

Health Steps Wellness Fair

Parkview Huntington Hospital will once again host its semi-annual health fair, Healthy Steps, on Saturday, October 7. Visitors can take advantage of free health screenings and services, reduced-cost lab tests, information on medical conditions, healthy lifestyle tips, and imaging services. New for October is the opportunity to meet two clinicians who are new to Huntington County – a primary care physician and a certified nurse midwife.

Free health screenings are available for hearing, vision, bone density, balance, dental health and skin cancer. Body-fat analysis, grip strength testing, and breathing assessment are also free.
Flu shots will be available for $20 each; supply is limited.

“Healthy Steps offers a convenient way for people to get important tests and screenings so they can be proactive about their well-being,” says Juli Johnson, president, Parkview Huntington Hospital. For more information about Healthy Steps, call (260) 355-3213.

Biology Students Present Their Summer Research

This coming Wednesday four biology seniors will make brief presentations about what they did with their summer. The students were doing research in three different states and in various areas of interest. These students will make the following presentations:

  • Nick Bond: Perceptions vs Reality of Patient Flow and Workflow in a Primary Care Setting
  • Kaylie Killian: Thymine DNA Glycosylase: A Tool to Measure Cytosine Deamination in DNA
  • Jeniece Regan: [SWI+]-induced Conformational Changes of Transcription Factors
  • Natalie Risser: Living with Wolves, Foxes and Coyotes: A Summer at Wolf Park

Talks will take place at 4:00 on Wednesday, September 27 in room 224 of Dowden Science Hall.
