The Forester track and field program hosted their own Invitational on Saturday with both teams finishing first. Among the field of competitors included three conference teams and the throwers of another.

On the men’s side, sprints highlighted the day’s performances. Avniel Barrow won the 100 meters by clocking in at 11.25, finished second in the 200 meters (22.79) and anchored the winning 4×100 meter relay team. Peyton Depriest was also a member of the relay team in addition to winning the 400 meters (49.37) and taking third in the 200 meters (22.83).

Nick Childs ran a PR of 9:21.84 in the 3,000 meters to run to a first place finish and register the 7th fasted time in HU history. In the same race, Adrien Gentrie earned the 10th spot in the Foresters record books with his second place finish time of 9:27.64.

In field events, Brooks Gerke claimed a first place finish for the Foresters in pole vault with an impressive mark of 4.65 meters. Adam Woods earned points in multiple events with two third place finishes in pole vault (4.00 meters) and javelin (42.29 meters) as did Zach Williams in discus (3rd, 35.03 meters), shot put (4th, 12.09 meters) and hammer throw (6th, 37.55 meters).

Other top five finishes for the Foresters included Codi Wiersema in the 1,500 meters (2nd, 4:12.17), CJ Robertson in the 400 meter hurdles (2nd, 59.60) and javelin (4th, 37.73 meters), Kody Ahrens in the 3,000 meters (5th, 9:51.76), Luke Fillers in pole vault (3rd, 4.00 meters), Heath Atkins in long jump (2nd, 6.02 meters), Bradey Gerke in triple jump (2nd, 12.43 meters) and Ben Gammon in discus (5th, 29.43 meters).

Huntington finished with 175 points followed by Grace (164), Saint Francis (50), Goshen (50) and Indiana Wesleyan (11).

Four Foresters earned first place in her respective event for the women’s team. Jessica Chojnacki won the 800 meters in 2:32.70. Nicole Pennington out sprinted her competitors in the 100 meter with her time of 13.08 in addition to finishing second in the 200 meters (27.21).

Brooke Saylor took top honors in javelin with her toss of 31.39 meters while Breanna Metz earned ten points for her team in high jump with a mark of 1.43 meters. She also claimed fourth in javelin with a heave of 21.85 meters.

Other top five finishes included Benedicte Nzombi-Fenner in the 100 meters (3rd, 13.35) and 200 meters (5th, 27.91), Madison Hoover in long jump (2nd, 4.64 meters), Holly Holton in hammer throw (5th, 36.61 meters*PR) and Tayia Meadows in the 100 meters (5th, 14.10).

The 4×100 meter relay team and 4×400 meter relay team finished first and second respectively to boost HU’s points.

HU slipped past Saint Francis by one point with 120 to the Cougars’ 119 followed by Saint Francis (119), Grace (74), Goshen (70) and Indiana Wesleyan (52).

Next up for the Foresters is the Indiana Little State Championships this coming weekend at Indiana Wesleyan.
