The Foresters’ nine-game win streak and perfect run in league play finally came to an end Tuesday afternoon by way of a 1-0 loss to the Indiana Wesleyan at Forest Glen. Today’s defeat drops the HU baseball team to 11-13 overall, 9-1 in Crossroads League action.

The Wildcats (25-12, 11-4) relied on lock-down pitching to be the first of its conference foes to hand Frame’s crew a loss. Winning pitcher Caleb Eder was the main culprit by limiting HU to just one hit and two walks while striking out seven through seven frames after which Zee Breytenbach gave up just one hit through the final two innings for the save.

Pitching was also solid for the hosts. DJ Moore spent seven innings on the bump during which he gave up four hits, the game’s only run and four walks while striking out ten for the loss. Alex McCutcheon wrapped things up for HU by surrendering just one hit over the final two frames.

Huntington’s hits came at the bat of Adam Roser and Nick Davit. While HU posted just two base pokes, they still managed to leave eight runners stranded with their best opportunity coming in the eighth. With one out and bases loaded compliments of Roser’s single, a walk and hit batter, Breytenbach worked a double play to get out of the jam and deny, at the very least, an equalizer.

Jordan Wharton logged the game’s only hit for extra bases and it proved to be the game-winner in the form of an RBI-double in the sixth.

Next up for the Foresters is a weekend series with Spring Arbor. HU will face the Cougars on Friday at 1PM for a doubleheader followed by a single nine on Saturday at 1PM.
