WOMEN’S GOLF

The Forester women’s golf team didn’t let cold temps and a dusting of snow hamper one of their best performances of the year Monday afternoon at the IU Kokomo Spring Invitational where they finished third out of seven teams. The event, because of weather, was reduced from a 36- to an 18-hole event with Huntington firing a 342.

Abby Poole proved herself one of the day’s best by carding an 83 to finish tied for 5th out of 38 golfers to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Leah Thompson finished one stroke behind Poole with an 84 for a piece of 7th. Alexandria Maris and Rachel Blauert each posted an 87 to claim 13th.

Other scores included Megan Higgins (88), Betsey Schroeder (89), Sophie Frazier (94) and Sara Scott (114).

“The team did a great job competing in tough conditions,” said Sholund. “Our play from tee to green is a strength currently. If we can continue to improve around and on the greens, our scores will reflect our play.

“Our players are gaining confidence and that is always exciting for a coaching staff to see. We are happy for Abby and her All-Tournament Team finish. She played really well – it was nice to see her bounce back.”

Grace College won the invitational with a 333 followed by IU Kokomo (338), HU (342), Holy Cross (343), IU East (357), Grace B (380) and Ancilla (391).

Next up for the Foresters is the Ackerman-Allen Shoot Out hosted by Taylor University on April 16.
