WOMEN’S GOLF

The Forester women’s golf team shot nine strokes better on day two of the Purgatory Intercollegiate to finish fifth out of six teams in their spring debut. After posting a 365 on Thursday, HU fired a 356 on Friday for a two-day total of 721 at the Taylor University hosted event at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville.

Betsy Schroeder paced Huntington with a 176 (93, 83) to finish 21 out of 40 golfers. Abby Poole shot a 179 (85, 94) for 26th place. Alexandria Maris finished third for the Foresters with a 184 (96, 88). Leah Thompson (91, 96) and Megan Higgins (99, 91) rounded out HU’s scoring with a 187 and 190 respectively.

Rachel Blauert fired a 202 (96, 106) playing as an individual.

Overall, Coach Sholund liked what he saw from his team. “We worked off some rust this week but I saw many good shots for us to build on.

“Betsy had a solid second round after a tough first day. This team is good from tee to green. If we can get much better around the greens, we will be much more competitive. Overall, this was a good start to the spring.”

Taylor topped the leaderboard by carding a 624 followed by Cardinal Stritch (627), Olivet Nazarene (652), Indiana Wesleyan (657), Taylor B (701), HU (721) and Spring Arbor (728).

The Foresters head to Tennessee to compete in the Cumberland University Phoenix Invitational on March 26-27.
