MEN’S GOLF

The Huntington men’s golf team posted their second lowest total of the year this week at the Taylor University’s Purgatory Intercollegiate. After shooting a 314 on Thursday, the Foresters turned in a 308 to finish 11th out of 16 teams with a 622 total.

Andrew Weisheit, playing the No. 3 spot for HU, posted a team-low 149 (77, 72) to finish 17th out of 88 golfers. Cale Carr fired a 151 (75, 76) for 24th place. Zach Borntreger carded a 158 (81, 77). Zakry Cummings finished fourth for Huntington with a 164 (81, 83) while Nick Whitney rounded out HU’s scoring with a 181 (93, 88).

“This was a good start to the spring for the guys,” said Coach Sholund. “Andrew and Zach had very solid second rounds for us.

“They all played well but gave away shots coming down the stretch. If we can grow from that, we will continue to improve where we finish events.”

Indian Hills CC cruised to the win with a 560 followed by Taylor (577), Cardinal Stritch (593), Parkland (596), Lindenwood-Belleville (602), Wheaton (613), Indiana Wesleyan (616), Saint Francis (618), Roosevelt (621), Mount Vernon (621), HU (622), IU Kokomo (624), Taylor B (629), Olivet Nazarene (630), Spring Arbor (636) and Bethel (649).

Like the HU women, the Forester are back in action on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Cumberland University Phoenix Invitational.
