The Forester baseball team cruised to a pair of wins in its home opener, 8-3, 11-3, over Grace College Friday afternoon at Forest Glen. With these wins, HU improves to 5-12 overall, 3-0 in league play. HU has won four of its last six contests.

Minus the second inning where the hosts gave up three runs, two hits and three walks and committed an error, the Foresters were solid. They would give up just one hit the rest of the way while scoring in every inning thereafter.

A Nick Davit RBI-single and Daniel Lichty sacrifice fly in the second and third frame respectively drew Huntington within one at 3-2 heading into the fourth where they captured the lead and did so with authority.

Hunter Losekamp headlined the fourth with a two-run double to deep left after which Donovan Clark drove in his team’s third run of the frame with an RBI-single for a 5-3 HU tilt.

Davit added two more RBI to his total by knocking in Lichty and Jamar Weaver in the fifth after which Jake Hansen posted a sacrifice fly for back-to-back three-run innings. The result was a comfortable 8-3 lead for Frame and crew which they rode out for the win.

Davit finished 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs. Clark added two hits and an RBI while Losekamp tallied a hit and two RBI.

Colton Punches spent the first six innings on the bump to earn the win. He gave up three hits, three runs and four walks while striking out eight after which Tarrin Beachy worked a 1-2-3 seventh to polish off the Lancers.

The nightcap saw the Foresters take control early by opening up a 4-0 lead after two and stretching it to 8-0 after six before both teams scored three runs over the final three frames to make for the 11-3 final.

Offense came easy for Huntington as it marked the third time this year they have scored at least ten runs. Frame’s crew doubled up their visitors in hits 16-8. They went 16-for-38 at the plate with seven different Foresters posting multiple hits.

Adam Roser pounded out two doubles with his second driving in a pair of runs. He also logged an RBI-single to lead HU with three hits and three RBI while scoring twice. Davit also claimed three hits. Clark did everything in pairs when it came to hits, RBI and runs scored.

Hansen and Adrian Perez each collected two hits and added three and two RBI respectively. Other Foresters to pick up a pair of base pokes included Lichty and Losekamp.

Connor West earned the win on the hill. He tossed the first 6.2 frames and gave up seven hits, two runs, neither earned, and one walk while striking out eight. Alex McCutcheon spent 1.1 innings on the mound and allowed one run, one hit and one walk while striking out one. Just like the opener, Beachy was tasked with tossing the final frame and this time he struck out all three batters he faced for a short appearance at the one spot.

Huntington heads to Mount Vernon on Monday for a doubleheader with the Cougars. Opening pitch for game one is slated for 2:00 p.m.
