Up against a tough Campbellsville University squad that just knocked off #6 William Carey, the #RV HU baseball team suffered a pair of losses, 3-1, 4-0, at HIG Baseball Field Tuesday afternoon.

Despite giving up just five hits, Alex McCutcheon was tagged with the loss in game one. The leftie hurler went the distance to give up an unearned run in the first, another in the fourth and an insurance run in the sixth.

The common denominator in CU’s final two runs was third baseman Marco Murillo as he knocked in both runs with a triple and single respectively. The California native posted just two hits through the first five games but he doubled that output in the opener with his run-scoring hits.

Huntington’s lone run came in the top of the sixth when Dan Lichty singled into left to drive in Jamar Weaver who drew a walk to open the frame, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.

Weaver, Adam Roser and Hunter Losekamp each picked up a hit to account for HU’s three other hits on the afternoon.

The nightcap saw the #20 Tigers outhit the Foresters 9-3. The hosts cashed in on five of those hits in back-to-back frames to account for all four of their runs. Campbellsville touched home twice in the third on three timely hits and then pounded out two more in the fourth while taking advantage of an error to score a pair of unearned runs.

Huntington’s bats were quiet except for three hits and as such, found themselves in scoring position just twice. Donovan Clark, Lichty and DJ Moore each singled to account for their team’s offense.

Three Foresters took to the mound with Jamar Weaver, who came in on relief in the third, taking the loss. He tossed three innings and gave up six hits and all four runs, only two of which were earned.

The Foresters (0-6) are back at it this weekend when they travel to IU Southeast for a four-game series with the Grenadiers.
