The #RV HU baseball team took to the field on Sunday for a pair of games against Reinhardt University and left still looking for their first win. After the Eagles slipped past their visitors, 3-2, in the opener, they blanked the Forester in the nightcap, 4-0. The losses drop HU to 0-4 on their weekend opener.

Huntington was forced to play catch up in game one and twice pulled even with their hosts before Daniel Rodriguez wrapped up the afternoon’s scoring when he sent his second pitch over the right field fence in the seventh for the game-winner.

Rodriguez’s dinger was the second of the afternoon with the first coming at the bat of Hunter Losekamp in the top of the fourth. The long ball was Losekamp’s first of his Forester career and drew his team even with the Eagles at 1-1.

RU logged their first run in the second and then pushed in front again in the fifth for a 2-1 lead. The Foresters’ equalizer came in the seventh when Adam Roser, who reached on a single to center, eventually made his way home an errant pick-off attempt. It was the contest’s second stalemate but was short-lived as Rodriguez’s big hit came in the bottom of the frame.

Colton Punches was charged with the loss on the mound. He tossed the first 6.2 innings and gave up six hits, three runs and a walk while striking out four after which Trent Lawson pitched 1.1 innings of hitless relief.

Frame’s crew struggled offensively in the nightcap as Dan Lichty and Jamar Weaver were the only two Foresters to post a hit – Lichty’s a bunt in the second and Weaver’s a single to center to open up the seventh. It was a quick afternoon of baseball as five of HU’s seven at bats were 1-2-3 innings.

Starting pitcher DJ Moore took the loss, giving up a run in the first and two more in the third. He surrendered six hits while striking out five through the first five frames. Ryan Bethel tossed the final inning where he gave up two hits, a run and a walk.

The Foresters are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Campbellsville on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
